Shrewsbury

After a very relaxed morning sorting out this blog thing yesterday and a delightful breakfast at the Park Inn in Telford, I set the TomTom to take me to Shrewsbury.

To make the most of the day I asked it to find any other tourist attractions along the way. It found two and on arrival at them I found them closed, as of 30 September. What a pity since it was such a lovely warm day for walk in the gardens or around some old ruins.

After parking in one of the Shrewsbury town centre car parks [only £1 for a whole day on sunday] I was off to look around. And what a beautiful city.

This was my first photo of a lovely old oak framed building. The photo is not wonky, it really is that shape!!

Little side alleys and 'passages' seem to be popular with those of Shrewsbury; facinating the little hidden away shops that are tucked away down there, although most seem to be little pubs and cafes. All so well tended with groomed plants and trees which really makes it all fee so welcoming.

I decided to stop for lunch at a little cafe next to St Alkmunds Place Church, which is just at the top of Bear Steps; chicken ceasar wrap and black coffee. The weather being lovely and fine I sat outside; just as well since the headroom in the building was about 5ft6in... slightly awkward for a 6ft2in chap!

The day here was drawing to a close and I knew that I'd a hour or so journy ahead of me to Ingleton where I'd already pro-booked for the Sunday and Monday night.

Wandering back to the car were a number of delightful old timber frame buildings with lots of detail which I found quite appealing. You can see more by clicking on the photo to go to flickr

There was also this very odd sculpture just being constructed... I'll have to pop back there to see what that's all about sometime
